History of the Farm

25 years ago, the German captain and ship-owner Horst Zeppenfeld acquired together with the family the Herdade dos Lagos in the Alentejo in southern Portugal.

The farm was mainly composed of some hectares of countryside with cork-oaks, meadows of the sheep and a small lake.

Within the last 25 years, the HERDADE DOS LAGOS slowly developed to be an estate of meanwhile 1.000 hectare land, four lakes for watering, almond and olive plantations, vineyards and a sheep-heard of 1.000 sheep.

Today, the focal points of production are wine and olive-oil.
